[TO THE EDITOR or THE " SPECTATOR."]

SIR,—I have undertaken to write a biography of the late Sir William White, 1C.C.B., Director of Naval Construction and Assistant Controller of the Navy from 1885 to 1902, at the request of his family. I should be obliged if any friends of Sir William White possessing letters from him, or willing to supply any personal information, would communicate with me, c, o Mr. John Murray, 50 Albemarle Street, London, W. I. Any letters lent to me will be preserved carefully, and returned to the owners as soon as they have been copied.—I am, Sir, &c., FREDERIC MANNINO.
