Speeches from Thucydides. Selected from Jowett's Translation. (Clarendon Press. Is.

net.)—Professor Gilbert Murray has chosen fifteen famous passages, chiefly speeches, from Jowett's version of Thucydides, and written an Introduction in which he dis- cusses the parallels between the Peloponnesian War and the Great War Many people who shy at the mention of Thuoydides will read these speeches, notably the Mellen dialogue and Cleon's address, with interest. They will find the old Greek historian to be startlingly modern.
