M. Clemenceau on Thursday week told the Chamber that Mr.

Lloyd George had not communicated to him or to the Allied Conference any peace proposal which he might have made to the Bolsheviks last spring. All that M. Clemenceau knew in regard to the allegations of Mr. Bullitt was " that the reply of the Soviet Government at first appeared acceptable to Mr. Lloyd George, but that after a certain campaign Mr. Lloyd George judged that it was useless to pursue the matter further." M. Clemenceau thus confirms the belief that there were informal and tentative negotiations or inquiries, set on foot by President Wilson and Mr. Lloyd George, but that the Conference as a whole only proposed the abortive Prinkipo meeting.
