Messrs. G. Routl edge and Sons publish .A Dictionary of

the Waverley Novels, by G. Husband (8s. 6d. net), and I Dictionary of Thacheray, by J. G. Mudge and M. E. Sears (same price). The plan in both works is to give an alphabetical list of the characters intro- duced, with references to the passages where they occur, and brief descriptions. Explanations and corrections, not unfrequently needed in the case of Sir Walter Scott, are added where historical passages and events are introduced. Both volumes are well printed and generally handsome.
