WHEN DOES the sun rise and set over London, and

when the moon? Having paid our money, for The Times and the Daily Telegraph, we can take our choice. In Wednesday's Times, for example, it was announced that sunrise was 7.47 a.m. and sunset 4.38 p.m., while the Telegraph said 7.48 a.m. and 4.37 p.m. According to The Times the moon would rise at 8.27 a.m., but the Telegraph plumped for 8.28 a.m. There have been much wider discrepancies than these in the past. I suspect that The Times consults the tables in the Nautical Almanac while the Telegraph swears by those in Whitaker's. I do not suppose that it matters very much, but if such interesting information deserves publication it should at least be accurate. For myself, I back the Nautical Almanac.
