THE CATHOLIC TRUTH SOCIETY.

[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.]

SIR,—In reply to Mr. George L. Fox, the Catholic Truth Society is certainly a " Catholic Propaganda Society," but the letters on its windows at 72 Victoria Street are not for that reason misleading. The Society exists for the purpose A propagating the Catholic religion, the whole basis of which is truth. The word " Catholic " in the title of the Society (and of its monthly periodical) is there in order to give addi- tional information. Of course, truth is absolute : but it is also many-sided. You cannot have a mathematical version, an historical version, a religious version of truth which in the least contradict one another. But you can no less honestly than helpfully label your Society " Mathematical Truth tiociety," " Historical Truth Society," &c., in order to let the public know with which particular aspect or section of truth it deals. The Catholic Truth Society, for instance, is not concerned with the law of gravitation, the Battle of Waterloo, the sound teaching of Buddhism to infants.. Its aim is to present the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth on matters which concern the Catholic Faith.—
