On Saturday IL Barthou, the leading French delegate, made a

strong protest against the " lying allegations " of the German -delegates in their apology for the Russian Treaty. That document, he said, violated the Cannes resolutions on which the Conference was based. On Sunday, before attending a luncheon on board an Italian battleship, where Chicherin was received by- the King of Italy and 4he Archbishop of Genoa, the Allies drafted a second Note to the Germans, protesting warmly against their action and the excuses which they made for it.
