It is announced by telegraph that the widow of the

late Gnicowar of Baroda has been allowed to select the eldest of three of his sons, Gopal Rao by name, to be the new Guicowar. The statement is not very intelligible—though the boy has been proclaimed—without an explanation of the reason why the sons were passed over on the last vacancy, but they are said to be adopted sons, and we presume, but do not remember, that the adoption was disallowed. If the telegram is correct, the solution is a good one, as an adopted son is in Hindoo eyes as good as a son by birth, while with the new blood the taint of insanity which has so long hung about this family will disappear.
