Jews in Russia SIR,—A letter requesting a meeting with visiting

Soviet parliamentarians was sent by the Universities' Committee for Soviet Jewry to the Soviet Ambassa- dor. It was hoped that this meeting would provide an opportunity for a confidential discussion on the situation of Jews in the Soviet Union. The request was refused. It seems to us singularly unfortunate that the Soviet visitors were not prepared to discuss a matter which is causing very great concern in this country, and has been the subject of a motion signed by 182 British MPs of all parties.
