We note as the most important item of news from

America that the Democrats are not quite content with the choice of Judge Parker as the candidate to be accepted at their Conven- tion. He has little "personal magnetism." They are, therefore, falling back upon Mr. Cleveland, who, though he refuses to be a candidate, would, it is believed, accept the offer if nomi- , nated by unanimous acclaim. If that were done, the policy of the party would probably be the abandonment of expansion, a lowered tariff, and severe anti-Trust laws, the latter to secure "the Bryanite wing." The South will "go solid" for this party, which is believed to be hostile to all negro claims.
