On Monday the Duke and Duchess of York returned home

after an absence of six months. They received an enthusiastic welcome, which they thoroughly deserved after carrying through their mission with a rare com- bination of dignity, simplicity and an ability to take pains and to understand and to sympathize. It is impossible to question the genuineness of the tributes to them ; they were something far more than formalities.

Although the tour was naturally expected to be a success, it was a success beyond all expectation. It is a very encouraging fact that, simultaneously with the growing spirit of independence in the Empire, there is a closer attachment than ever to the one symbol that unites us all.
