The Portuguese Government have agreed to a new treaty for

the suppression of the slave-trade ; and Lord HOWARD DE WAL- DEN, who has arrived at Falmouth from Lisbon, brought it with him for the ratification of the British Government. It is said that the treaty provides tor an unrestricted right of search of Portu- guese vessels, with severe penalties for unnecessary detention.
