SIR,—I did not expect that Mr. Whitbread would admit that any evidence, however damaging, could convict the Trade. Neither the accused nor his advocate, however, is usually invited to give the verdict. The fact remains that the Government are per- mitting the brewers to destroy six weeks' food, and yet tell us through the Fcod Controller that bread rations are in sight. I can safely leave your readers to fix the measure of responsibility upon those guilty of such criminal stupidity.—I am, Sir, Ste., G.
