No news of special importance is reported this week from

the Italian front. We have to record, however, with much regret the loss of the Italian battleship 'Benedetto Brin ' by an explosion following on a fire as she was lying in the harbour at Brindisi. Seven officers and three hundred and seventy-nine men have been saved, but it, is feared that four hundred lives have been lost, including Rear-Admiral Rubin de Cervin. Though the cause of the fire is not known, there is no suspicion of foul play. The ' Benedetto Brin' was not among the most modern ships of the Italian Navy, having been launched in 1901. Salvage operations are being success- fully carried on for the removal of the heavy guns. The sympathy of the British Navy and nation will go out in full measure to our gallant allies in their loss.
