The Great Spectator Treasure Hunt

Next week sees the start of the Great Spectator Treasure Hunt.

The first prize is an oil painting of a Moroccan interior, entitled `Habiba', by Sir John Lavery, valued at £3,000. It is now on view at the Maclean Gallery, 35 St George Street, Hanover Square, London W1 . The second prize, en- titled 'The Barrister', is a pen-and- wash sketch by Sir William Orpen valued at £600. It is now on view at Hammick, Sweet & Maxwell Bookshop, 116 Chancery Lane, London WC2.

Next week's clue will differ from those in weeks to come: it is the only one the answer to which is not a place name in the British Isles, and as a starting bonus it will be made up not of three questions (as the rest will be) but of six.

Even if a complete sequence of clues is not solved correctly, it will still be possible at the end, by great ingenuity, to identify the hiding place of the treasure from only a partial set of answers.

However, preference will be given, in determining the order of those who arrive at the treasure, to those who can supply a complete set of answers.

DON'T MISS NEXT WEEK'S ISSUE FOR THE FIRST CLUE.
