SIR, — In view of the currently revived scare over the correlation

between heavy tobacco smoking and cancer of the lung, it is perhaps worth recalling, especially to the fanatic tobacco idolator, the follow- ing apposite lines from Charles Lamb's 'Farewell to Tobacco':

For thy sake, Tobacco, I Would do anything but die, And but seek to extend my days Long enough to sing thy praise.
