The Government are being weakened by resignations under the strain

of this election, which should never have been forced. Mr. Clynes, the Food Controller, has announced that he will resign when the new Parliament is elected. He has, in .fine, decided to obey the summons of the Labour Party. Mr. Walsh has resigned his position as Parliamentary Secretary to the Local Government Board, and Mr. Brace retires from the Under-Secretaryship of the Home Office. But by far the greatest blow to the Government is the resignation of Lord Robert Cecil. We deeply regret the withdrawal of such a wise and steady influence as his; but for honourable -men pledges are pledgee, and it would be impossible to argue with Lord Robert Cecil about his decision.
