Sir Trastram Eve, on behalf of the Central Church Fund,

has made known some facts which demand atten tion. The first two needs for which the Fund provides are the training of the ministry and the support of the Training Colleges for teachers. The Central Board has given the Archbishops and Bishops a free hand to enable them to provide bursaries for approved soldiers and sailors who wish to enter the ministry after the war. The sum required is estimated at £200,000 a year for three years. As regards the Training Colleges, it is known that Mr. Fisher proposed to hand these over to the County Councils by withdrawing State support. It has since been arranged that the Training Colleges shall be, as it were, federated, so that the Board of Education may be able to deal with a single body. In this case, too, the Central Board has given the Archbishops and Bishops a free hand to finance the scheme, which is expected to cost £10,000 to £15,000 a year, together with a capital sum of £100,000.
