Bottoms up

Sir: The Erotic Print Society has advertised with The Spectator for nearly three years — indeed, in its earliest incarnation as the Maclean Gallery, as far back as 1980. I am a little surprised that it has taken Mary A. Lynch (Letters, 23 November) such a long time to complain if she is so greatly offend- ed by our advertisement for Oliver Mait- land's The Illustrated Book of Bottoms. Per- haps she is not a regular reader.

The reason that we have remained loyal to your readers (and, with your permission, Sir, intend to keep it up) is that many of our most distinguished members have been introduced to the Society through your classified pages. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their sup- port during our early years, and express the hope that they will continue to enjoy a little elegant indecency for some time to come.
