This list supplies the names of the Members who have been turned adrift. Long as it is, there are but few whose absence need give the country much concern. But there are a few whose places are not, and cannot easily be, supplied. Among them may be mentioned the able and well-informed Colonel TORRENS, whose rejection is a disgrace to the electors of Bolton. Mr. MORRISON of Ipswich has not left his equal on the Opposition side for knowledge of business details, or his superior in manly independence of character. Mr. RIGBY WASON too, the spirited antagonist of corruption, will be missed ; but, with Mr. Molt- BISON, only for a short time, we trust ; as it is said that he has col- lected evidence enough to unseat the sitting Members. Shrewsbury has made a poor exchange in Mr. PELHAM for Mr. SLANEY. The latter gentleman bad established a character for usefulness and inde- pendence, which will cause the Liberals to regret his loss. Mr. WOLRYCHE WHITMORE, the persevering enemy of the Corn-laws, occu- pied a place in the public eye which is not likely to be filled up at pre- sent. Lord PALMERSTON was useful as a debater sometimes : but really we think he is as well out of the way. He is the less likely to form a part of the next Liberal Ministry, and on that account will be missed by the Tory diplomatists whom he patronized, but scarcely by the friends of bold national improvement. Mr. M. D. HILL is sue- ceeded by Mr. CARRUTHERS—we wish the people of Hull joy of the ex- change! They have lost an able and highly respected Representative, who possessed the ear of the House of Commons; and have got in his place a gentleman whose supporters, it is said, opened eighty-two public- houses, and expended 12,000/. to procure his return. And this is all the public as yet knows of Mr. DAVID CARRUTHERS. Among the new Members returned, there are a few excellentnames: such as THORNELY, TALFOURD, PATTISON, BOWRING, DUNLOP. O'Loucricisr. As these are all men untried in Parliament, we shall only say, that in their several spheres they are expected to be useful, and some of them eloquent also—all of them independent.

3. EXCHANGES

W. S. Poyntz. late Member for Ashburton. now for Midhurst. D. W. Harvey. Colchester qoutliwatk. Henry Lytton Bulwer Coventry Marylebone. Colonel Res Tavi, toca Stroud.

Robert Ferguson Kirkalally . Iladdingtonshire.

Lewis Perrin Monaghan ... ...Cashel.

The number of Exchanges strikes us as being remarkably small,. when the great number of alterations in the Representation are consi- dered. Mr. HARVEY has bettered himself vastly : he has left a most profligate and unimportant constituency, for his proper place, one of the Metropolitan Boroughs. He is a man of sufficient mark to occupy the seat he now bolds. Mr. HENRY BULWER has spirit and talent, we hope he will also exhibit the industry and perseverance which the busy and practical Reformers of Marylebone desiderate. Mr. ROBERT FER- GUSON deserves credit for his chivalrous conduct in Haddingtonshire, when his return for Kirkcaldy was sure and easy. He is more properly the representative of a County than of a district of Burghs.
