The East India Directors, at a Court held on Wednesday, nominated Lord Heytesbury to the Governor. Generalship of India.

Mr. John Gladstone has been appointed Under-Secretary of State for the Colonial Department.

It is rumoured that Sir Robert Wilson is to be the new Lord High Commissioner of the Ionian Isles.

Sir John Hobhouse, and Mr. Poulett Thomson, Lord John Russell, and Lord Duncannon, have been visiting Lord Melbourne at Brockett Hall.

It is currently rumoured among well-informed persons, friends of the Knight of Kerry, that he will be called to the House of Peers, as a Baron of the United Kingdom, before the ensuing meeting of

We learn that the Russian nobleman upon whom it has been deter- mined to confer the high honour and the important trust of permanent Ambassador at the Court of London, is Count Woronzow, the late Governor of Odessa, who is well known in Great Britain, and clasely connected with the noble fa 'lilies of Pembroke a id Clanwilliam.— Post.
