• Sir John Simon and some of his colleagues have

now returned to Delhi. At a luncheon there, attended by many members of all parties in the Central Legislature, Sir John made a speech in which he reviewed the tour of the Commission, and gave a summary of the impres- sions received by the Commission during the two months that they have been in India. He confirms our trust in his patience to overcome any unpropitious distrust that appeared so strong at first. He did not speak enthusiasti- cally, but declared himself " not dissatisfied with the results." Certainly there is the negative success that no other constructive proposals have been brought forward in opposition to the Commission's offer of the " Joint Free Conference " made upon their first arrival at Delhi. Before the Commission pays its second visit to India we expect to see a great change of opinion in favour of reasonable co-operation.
