Sta,—Your correspondent P. A. Shaw appears to be ignorant of

the fact that there is an agreed syllabus between the Church of England and the Free Churches. But the point is, not the imparting of religious know- ledge, but the translation of this into action, and this will best be found in the schools with a religious foundation. " Faith without works is dead," and the children must be given an outlet for, and expression of, their faith. Surely religious knowledge by itself is practically useless?—
