It has been arranged that King Edward's Hospital Fund shall

act in close co-operation with the National Radium Fund. The Times appeal is for the two funds. The general work of the hospitals will gain, but no improve- ment can possibly be contemplated apart from a consider- able addition to the national stock of radium. The " surgery of access " has made it possible to apply radium to the cure of cancer in new ways, and the result is already a percentage of cures and a diminution of suffering which would not have seemed possible a few years ago. Within three days—we write on ,Thursday—the Thank- offering Fund of the :Times for the combined objects. has reached nearly I100,000. This, of course, is apart, from the gift of " Audax " and from a munificent legacy to King Edward's Hospital Fund of .£1,00,000 by the late Lord Revelstoke. The greater part of the. Times donations are earmarked for .radium.
