The Thank-Offering Fund On Monday one of the most important

appeals of recent times was made to the nation, through the Times, for the institution of a Thank-Offering Fund for the recovery of the King. We recorded recently the announcement by the Government that they would subscribe £100,000 for buying radium if the public would contribute a corresponding sum. For a short time the proposal halted, because there was some con- troversy about the personnel of the bodies which would preside over the purchase and distribution of radiuni. That controversy is ended. The National Radium Fund is in being. Simultaneously the directors of King Edward's Hospital Fund have come forward in the great cause of the voluntary hospitals. They were moved to action by the generosity of an anonymous donor, signing himself " Audax," who, in gratitude for the King's convalescence, subscribed 100,000 guineas to King Edward's Hospital Fund. He hoped that this sum would become the nucleus of a larger fund.
