SHOPPING CENTRES.

From the statements made at the annual meeting of Henry Chive, Limited, it will seem that both turnover and profits are steadily increasing. For the past year a full 10 per cent. has been paid on the Preferred Ordinary, and 20 per cent. on the Deferred shares. At the present moment the company is to some extent a Holding company, and also owns a con- trolling interest in the United Drapery Stores, which itself is a Holding company. From the picture which accompanies the recent annual meeting, it is evident that the new Stores will be quite an imposing structure, the floor space, it is stated, amounting to something like six acres. In that connexion the Chairman remarked on the growing popularity of New Oxford Street as a shopping centre.
