The Week in Parliament Our Parliamentary Correspondent writes : Both

Houses of --Parliament have had a busy week. The 'spiciest incident was the allegations of the Duke of -Atholl against the police in 'the House of Lords, the 'repudiation of them in the House of Commons next -day by the Attorney-General, and the repetition of them the day after by the Duke. A direct conflict of recol- lection of what took place at the interview between 'police officers and the Duke can hardly be resolved by -any form of inquiry ; and the only bearing of the incident on* the Betting Bill is that, whichever recollection be 'correct, the law needs reform. The Bill itself had a fairly good reception, but it can hardly be popular. outside Parliament, and since the House of Commons is feeling rather sensitive at the moment, one can foresee some difficulty in getting it through.
