We have received from Messrs. Ward Lock and Co., two

books, between which we do not find it easy to discriminate. Those are Ward, Lock and Co.'s Wonder Book (8s. 6d.), edited by Harry Golding, described as a " Picture Annual for Boys and Girls," and Happy Hearts, a " Picture Book for Boys and Girls," with the same

editor (3s. 6d.). The "Annual" has possibly a little more of the serious element than the "Book." What they certainly have in common are excellent illustrations. The coloured plates of the

" Annual," in which various oil paintings are reproduced, are distinctly above the average; on the other hand the comic extravagances of the "Book" are admirable in their way—

notably Mr. Frank Hart's " Christmas Eve," with its topsy-turvy monoplane, and Mr. Louis Wain's "Training School for Kittens" —but all are exceedingly amusing.
