The French Consulate at Breslau was sacked by a mob

on Thursday week, and the Consul narrowly escaped death. The German police made no attempt to interfere. The French Government have demanded exemplary reparation for the damage done, and the punishment of the offenders. The incident is only one of a long series of attacks on French officers and officials which the German Government, as the French think, have encouraged by their reluctance to prosecute the guilty parties. The riots provoked by the German Nationalists against the Poles in Upper Silesia have ceased. It is a pity that the plebiscite which is to determine the future of this district should still be delayed.
