Drinking Strine

From Mr David Morgan Sir: Michael Duffy's rant (Elizabeth II boomerangs back', 21 August) leads me to ask what on earth is wrong with Chardon- nay? Wine is a major Australian export industry — does Duffy expect anyone in South Australia, or the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, to applaud when he insults their product?

I, for one, will happily resign from the Australian Republican Movement and toast Her Majesty with Yellowglen sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay (we can't call it 'Champagne' any more, thanks to the French) on the day she announces that she is moving to Canberra to take up her post as Queen of Australia full-time.
