DOVZHENKO'S FILMS

SIR,—In reviewing Experiment in the Film, Mr. Cyril Ray refers to " Dovzhenko's juxtaposition of newsreel shots." I have not seen Dovzhenko's most recent work, but his earlier films, among which Earth may justly be claimed as one of the most moving examples of pure screen-poetry, are a thousand mile' from Mr. Ray's statement. I wonder if he intended to refer to Vertov, whose theory of the Kino-Eye, now long abandoned, comes nearer the mark?—Yours, &c., Basil. WRIGHT.
