Prague Braves the Hangman. By E. V. Erdely. (The Czx

slovak. as.) IN this small book Dr. Erdely supplements his larger wo Germany's First European Protectorate. In this, which was revie here on April 3rd, he gave an impressive and informative acco of Germany's exploitation of the material resources of Czec slovakia. Here he carries on the story to show how the Czech peo have resisted this exploitation, forcing the German masters to t the screw ever harder. St. Wenceslas' Day, September 28th was a turning-point. It was then that Von Neurath was dismis from his post of Protector, and Heydrich introduced to scourge Czech workers and students. The violence with which he proce was a measure of the vital importance which Germany attached Czech industrial production and the situation of the country on of the main military routes to the East. In carrying out his t Heydrich has found—the writer does not hesitate to admit—ce native Quislings, but his plain diary of German terrorism wo seem to show that this has not had the desired effect, and that Cz resistance—to death in hosts of instances—cannot be smothered force or cajolery.
