The Times correspondent says that the moderates view with ever-increasing

disfavour the domination 01 Borodin, who is now practically a dictator at Hankow. The Cantonese General, Chiang Kai-shek, is said to have quarrelled with Gallents, the Russian General, and Gallents (to whom are attributed many of the recent Cantonese successes) is playing the part of Achilles and shamming ill at Hankow. These rumours may have taken a more precise shape than the facts warrant, but nothing would be less surprising than a split between the Cantonese and the•Russians. After all, the Chinese have no fundamental -sympathy. with Communism. They are intense individualists; and as Confucians they reverence authority. and tradition.
