A Cool View in Oxford There is evidence also, wheedled

from this paper's circulation manager, that Oxford de- cided early on to stay well above what it plainly regarded as a vulgar Cambridge squabble. While 1,144 extra copies of the paper containing Dr. Leavis's lecture were sold in Cambridge, Oxford required only 117 extra. And the editor tells me that while letters have been pouring in from Cambridge and from universities all over Britain, the Commonwealth and the United States, the contribution from Oxford has been negligible. Provincial as ever.

By the way, Sir Charles is delivering the Earl Grey Memorial Lectu're at King's College, New- castle upon Tyne, on April 27; and I hear that his subject is 'Further Thoughts on the Two Cultures.' He has had some food for them.
