your article on the Negro Problem, may I be allowed to quote at least one instance of a " pure black " rising to eminence, in Sir Edward Reeves, Chief Justice of Barbados, about 1880 ? If 1 remember rightly, Mr. Kennedy, also a pure black, was about the same time U.S. Minister at Port au Prince, Haiti.—I am, Sir, &c., E. H. B.
