CANINE DEFICIENCY.

[TO THE EDITOR Of THE " SPI:CTATOR."] bin,—A pet dog, a small Blenheim spaniel, is in the habit of playing with a tennis-ball and working it with his paws until he gets it in the interstice between the bottom of the sideboard and the floor, a space of about four inches. He then barks for me to come and extricate it for him. The Other day I was astonished to see him trying to do the same with a full-sized football! It struck me that a valuable piece of information was accidentally gained—a want of sense of proportion of size in dogs. Blind instinct never seemed to me to explain why a small dog Would attack one out of all proportion to it. Has the small dog any realization of size? The incident of the football would seem to point to the solution. I should be pleased to hear the comment Of any of your readers.—I am, Sir, &c., Scarrsros.
