A CORRECTION [To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] Sin,—My attention

has been called to a letter signed " Engineer " in the current issue of the Spectator, in reference to the article I wrote, " A Day in the Life of a Miner," in which it is pointed out that no lad could get into the mines at the age of twelve in 1898. This is quite true; but in some way or other a mistake crept into the article, which placed the year of my birth later than it was. I was born in 1880, and I went into the pit in 1892, being then only twelve years of age.

Legislation came just about that time, raising the age, but it did not affect my position. I hope this explanation will

clear up the point.—I am, Sir, &c., J. W.
