The reassertion of sovereignty

Sir: A. J. Hendry says (27 Febru- ary), `I only hope your opposition [to EEC entry] does not become so much of an obsession as did Biafra during the Nigerian civil war'. Pro- ceeding from that revealing judg- ment, Mr Hendry has no difficulty in applying the lesson to the fate of this country: 'Even if it is true that the majority of people are opposed to joining the EEC (and for what reasons no' one has successfully established) . . . the next election will not occur until after entry has been achieved, by which time any- one still opposing entry will seem to be crying over spilt milk.' It seems Mr Hendry intends that we are to have no more say in our fate than the Ibos had. lithe British accept his view that oppo- sition to entry is an obsession, that would be Nemesis indeed.
