Richard Eldridge aged thirty-one is the latest atriviste to the city's go-go scene. His public company, Junitex, and his private vehicle, Eldridge Pope, have started on the takeover trail and Mr Eldridge now ,feels sure enough of getting rich to have taken his first shy steps into society. He has arranged to learn to ride and to take polo lessons at Cowdray Park under the instruc- tion of trendy twenty-three-year-old sugar merchant Sandy Harper, four goal polo player and escort to Princess Anne.
There should be welcome hinnyings to Mr Eldridge's arrival from that tubby Cowdray player Lord Brecknock, who is interested in getting a toe hold in business again since leaving Clive Discount. Whatever happens he will be safer with Mr Eldridge than investing the 'few thousand' he lost through a Business Opportunities advertisement that caught his eye last year headed `Do you want' to be Mr Show Business 1970?'
