Uplift

It is usual to see in the financial press during a period of takeover activity announcements by stockbrokers and merchant bankers of their purchase 'on behalf of an associate', of the shares of the bidding company.

However it is wrapped up, this usually Means the bidding company is supporting its own shares during the course of the bid to raise the effective bid price.

They should remember those words written about the slump and the Great Crash of 1929 'There was no course that seemed so bold and imaginative to the battered but unbowed promoter than to support his own stock in a falling market.'
