Wake up, Bedfordshire!

Although it is, and has been for several weeks, my firm impression that, as I wrote some time ago, the third London airport would end up at Foulness, I hear some con- cerned and informed mutterings that Thur- leigh is still mentioned in official, if not ministerial, circles. I mention this in order to alert the people of Bedfordshire who may be thinking that the Cublington people have done their work for them and that they there- fore have no cause for alarm. There's many a slip between cup and lip, and it would be tragic if, thanks to local complacency or idle- ness, the officials were able to persuade the Government that where Stansted and now Cublington have been ruled out through the activities of the locals, Thurleigh will be acceptable.
