The new French Ministry is open to objection on account

of its great size, but it seems that M. Briand will work through a small War Committee. He is certainly not a man to suffer delay patiently, as all his past dealings in politics prove. Again, General Gallieni is said to be in entire accord in advance with General Joffre as to all military measures and methods that may be necessary. This fact is a source of strength to the Government, and entirely outweighs the traditional Republican dislike of having a soldier as Minister of War. M. Briand has sent to Sir Edward Grey a message expressing his firm determination to continue to act in the closest co-operation with the British Government.
