On Thursday afternoon a wireless message reached London announcing that

the Germans had occupied Warsaw. Writing without official confirmation we will only say that if the city has fallen the profit and loss account, when it is made up, will show that the Germans will have paid an enormous price for its possession, a price out of all proportion to its military value. In spite of German local superiority in numbers and a still greater superiority in guns, shell, and munitions of all kinds, the loss inflicted by the Russians upon their enemies has been tremendous.
