The Annual Register, 1891. (Longraans.)—This, the eighth volume of the

new series, is as likely to be useful as its pre- decessors. The first part consists of continuous summaries of affairs in England, and in the principal countries of the world ; the second gives a "Chronicle of Events," important incidents of every kind in politics, social history, sport, &c., given without comment, a "Retrospect of Literature, Science, and Art," and an "Obituary of Eminent Persons." The facts are carefully col- lected, and the comment and criticism seem judicious.
