Sir: We are writing on behalf of the `self-besotted goof' of this country to ask John Osborne how he can blame us for the `fine mess' of starvation, greed and injus- tice the world is in, and how he dares to refer to the raising of over £40 million for famine relief as 'dismal stuff by 'Scum Productions' (Diary, 20 July). Who, we ask, is really self-besotted?
