No. 474: Sextet

Competitors are invited to compose a six-line poem, or stanza of a poem, on any one of the subjects given below, using three of the follow- ing four pairs of words as end-rhymes. Although not in their original order, the rhymes are taken from a well-known poem (and, in the case of long poems, from one stanza). The rhyme- scheme is optional.

The rhymes : crowned, confound; youth, truth; end, contend; shore, before.

The subjects: Voluntary Service Overseas; Scottish nationalism; modern dentistry; the Prince of Wales at Cambridge.

In addition to prizes of five guineas for the best contribution and three guineas each for the runners-up, a special prize of one guinea will be awarded to the first entry opened which correctly identifies the poem from which the rtymes were chosen. Entries, marked 'Com- petition,' must be in by 20 November.
