THE

SPECTATOR

GET TO THE POINT IN 2,000 WORDS FOR BRITAIN'S SHARPEST READERS

Most young writers only ever get one good break into journalism. We are offering you two.

As winner of the Young Writer Awards, your article will be published in either The Spectator or The Sunday Telegraph with one further commission from each publication coming your way.

We will also give you an eight day Speedbird Holiday to Egypt for two with £500 in your pocket. You will be flying Super Club class on British Airways to Cairo and returning on the airline's new flight from Luxor.

We will be extending a helping hand into the world of journalism for the four runners up, too. If you come second, Sherratt and Hughes — the leading bookshop chain in Britain — are offering £500 cash and £500 credited to a book account with them. £200 cash and £200 in books for the third prize winner (also awarded separately to the best entry for anyone still at school on the closing date of the competition) with £100 of each as fourth prize.

What we are looking for is an article that gets right to the point in less than 2,000 words of your finest writing. For an idea of the quality that will impress us and our combined two million plus readership — we strongly recommend that you read carefully through both publications this weekend. There is no restriction on subject matter but you are encouraged to make use of your own particular interests and resources.

So sharpen your pencils, your wits and get down to writing your first piece for The Spectator or The Sunday Telegraph.
