The Prime Minister announced later in the evening that the

.Government would advance, out of unexpended credits, the sum of £2,000,000 to Austria, in order to help her in an acute financial crisis. France was doing the same. It was hoped that Congress would sanction the withdrawal of American liens upon Austria's resources, which prevented the Austrian Govern- ment from raising foreign loans.
