The Anti-Slavery and Aborigines' Protection Society has issued, under the
title of Hong Kong : Slavery or Adoption? an appeal to Members of Parliament to support the demand for an inquiry into the system of child-slavery prevalent in Hong Kong. It is stated that the system was condemned by the Chief Justice of the colony in 1880, and that the Colonial Office in 1882 ordered an inquiry which for some reason or other has never been made. The facts have been stated in letters addressed by Commander and Mrs. Haslewood to the Spectator. Chinese and British residents in Hong Kong have formed a society for the abolition of the infamous practice, under which Chinese children are openly sold into slavery under the British flag.
