Women of Letters

SIR,-1 know Mr. Derek Hudson and Miss, Glynn Grylls will be relieved to hear that at least two libraries in London are as tender of the feel- ings of women writers (and exasperated searchers for their works) as anyone could wish. If they consult the catalogues of the British Museum or the University of London Library they will find " Burney afterwards D'Arblay " and " Wollstonecraft afterwards Godwin" as the headings chosen for these eminent ladies. I do not, however, believe even the most ardent feminist would really wish to find Mrs. Gaskell listed under " Stevenson."—Yours truly,

Little Whit Hern, Hoddesdon, Herts.

MARY HARGREAVES.
